Bath time with baby can be stressful. Let’s be honest: the nights where your child takes a bath without complaints is a rare and beautiful moment. However, it’s likely not happening 7 days a week. As one parent puts it, “Trying to wash my toddler’s hair during bath time is what I imagine it would be like to baptize an angry raccoon.” We are here to help.
When is the ideal time to give my baby a bath?
While it may make sense to give your baby a bath at the end of the day, that could be the time of day when they are overtired and cranky. When deciding when to have bath time with baby, consider what time their witching hour, or the time of day when they are most fussy, occurs. Even if that means giving your baby a bath before dinner, if it will make the bath experience more pleasant, it’s worth it!
How can I keep my baby entertained during bath time?
As parents and caregivers, we come up with any and all ways to keep baby entertained during bath. Here are some of our top recommendations:
~ Keep toys in the bathtub that they are only allowed to play with during bath time so that it feels special. Refrain from allowing them to use toys they play with in their room, in the bath. You can remind them that as soon as they get out of the bath, they can continue playing with toys from their room.
~ Play some of their favorite music during bath time to distract them.
~ Get in the bath or shower with them! Sometimes when bath time gets especially difficult, it’s easiest (and quickest) to get in the tub or shower with baby. It’s a great bonding experience, and gets you clean too!
